Share your story and help to make Jeans for Genes Day bigger and better!
Jeans for Genes is a UK registered charity that raises funds to provide care for children and families affected by genetic disorders. We also fund the constant search for the causes and cures of these disorders. Jeans for Genes Day on Friday 3rd October is our major fundraising appeal.
With October fast approaching, we're starting to get everything ready for Jeans for Genes Day, so there were just a couple of things I was hoping your members could help me with:
Case Studies
Each year we ask the charities we support to help us promote Jeans for Genes Day by putting us in touch with any of their members who would be willing to act as case studies for us. In particular we would like to speak to families with younger children, or to any youngsters who want to talk to the media themselves.
This would involve them featuring in media coverage during the run up to Jeans for Genes Day. The main purpose of this is to raise awareness of genetic disorders in general, as well as highlighting the charities and families who benefit from Jeans for Genes Day.
School Speaker's Programme
Every year we invite volunteers from across the UK to visit their local primary or secondary schools to give a 10 minute talk to help the children and staff to understand what Jeans for Genes does, what it means to have a genetic disorder and how their fundraising helps. The presentations are also an opportunity for you to share your story and talk about the important work that your charity does for children with genetic disorders.
Free training
To say thank you for giving up your time we'd love you to join us at a free public speaking workshop in Central London. The Jeans for Genes team will be there to make sure that you have all you need to go and inspire schools about Jeans for Genes day and your charity. The workshop will be led by Alastair Creamer, a public speaking expert with many years experience in the arts, business, charity and education sectors. It promises to be an inspiring and motivating day, and we'll cover areas such as presentation skills, building confidence, and dealing with a roomful of children! We hope for it to be an invaluable experience for anyone who speaks to groups of people in a business or education environment.
We are holding one workshop this year in central London as a pilot, before rolling it out across the UK in 2009. It'll be in the first week of September and because we want to give you this excellent training we will happily pay your travel expenses. We will be in touch with full details once you have confirmed if you'd like to be one of our Jeans for Genes Day School Speakers.
Interested volunteers should email office@restrictedgrowth.co.uk by Wednesday the 21st May 2008 leaving their name and telephone contact number.
